My grandpa was a pretty awesome guy, and he used to tell me, while giggling..., Milos, when you wake up in the morning, put a little pebble in your shoe, and walk around, and let it bother you all day long. In the evening, when you come home, when you take off your shoes, you're going to be so happy ! And he had the point.
Happiness is really not a state, it's more of our reaction to a change, and, it is pretty much impossible to become happy and just stay happy because whatever fortunate circumstances made us happy, they eventually become our new normal and they are taken for granted. That's why THE CULTURE OF GRATITUDE is so important.
Fortunately the opposite also applies. When something horrible happens, when we experience a loss and we become very, very unhappy, eventually our new circumstances are going to become our baseline and again, our MOOD is going to respond to a change. It's kind of interesting thing to ponder upon and, uh, maybe indeed put the pebble in your shoe !?!
